More looking back at the New York Botanic Gardens Orchid display . This is a Colmanara Masai Red Orchid, and what better description could one find for it. As a little girl in Kenya I remember seeing Masai Warriors standing in the markets; one foot lifted and resting on the other knee, red robe draped majestically around them, and a neck ringed around with layers of magnificently coloured beads. The red was so deep and crimson. I also remember their favorite beverage including a similar red. It was held in a beautifully crafted long leather sack, or pouch, slung nonchalantly across the chest. The beverage was a mix of goats milk ripened with a dash of goats blood, which was on tap pretty much all the time. The photo of the Masai Warriors is by Stephen Kennedy.

Older: Connecting to internals; Whitney Biennial 2010
The drawing crawls across the wall, as the visualisation builds, the linework is slightly schizophrenic; here focusing and ruminating for a while; there lacing loosely over unknown matter. And all the while the paper accommodates as required.
Newer: the beautiful weeds
So why should weeds be beautiful? Perhaps because they bring us back to earth, provide us with honest labor in ‘weeding’ and trimming, and when they are properly tended enable us to enjoy the magnificently beautiful, or delicious; depending on the other plants one has planted in the garden.
