Christian Fletcher: the Australian Landscape

Christian Fletcher‘s photograph has been on my wall for some days now, exhibited in the 2009 Australian Professional Photography Awards and recipient of the gold award.

It is a beautifully rich image for various reasons of light and dark, but also because it truly brings to mind other iconic Australian images of the land by the likes of Tom Roberts – here and here. While the medium is different there is a feeling of the denseness of bush, the scrub and eucalypts, and flocks of sheep that proliferate in romantic visions of a bygone age when Australia’s wealth and industry revolved around both the grazing of sheep and the mining of gold.
