We Are Handsome have launched their limited edition Italian nylon lycra swim collection online. It is at once inspiring, evocative, playful and refreshing. The two Sydney based designers Indhra Chagoury [of Oscar and Elvis] and Jeremy Somers [of People Like Us] have certainly touched a nerve with ‘the fraternity’, fashion followers and style bloggers . Only available to order worldwide until November 30th 2009, fans have been forced to get in quick and are already hanging out for next season’s sublime expressions.
Beautifully nostalgic, they remind me of my most favorite t-shirt of all time, and a golden era in my 70s childhood, living with my family in Africa. The t-shirt was covered in a tonal photographic print of a beach at sunset, flamingos and palm trees in silhouette and a sky fading from brilliant aqua to perfect orange and hot pink. It was nylon.
In my minds eye I remember wearing it with knee-high striped socks and sandals, tucked into a little skirt. The day is hot as we visit our friends a few doors along who have just gotten their hands on a white VW Beetle. I remember sitting in my favorite t-shirt, smelling the beige vinyl of the car seats, touching the bubbly surface with little circles cut out of the fake leather.
The swimsuits bring it all back to me and are a testament to the power of the novelty print! Ah the 70s. Thanks We Are Handsome. Very trendy togs!
