daniel Baltzer is a New York artist who’s work is inspired by the effects of technology on the human psyche and the idea of technology drawing people together.
Living in the information age, inundated with social media and the complexity of the world wide web, it is easy to feel one is on training wheels, and like a child. The evolution of patterns of play and patterns of recognition appear in various imagery within the works. They make one think of sci-fi movies, and childhood romps, whilst exuding a pervading menace of Orwellian intent. The ’1984′ and ‘Big Brother’ factor is ever present.
In Baltzer’s broadcast series the idea of technology picking up the threads of human lives and weaving them into the fabric of society is vividly illustrated. Textile metaphors interlace his work via the use of patterning and linear ‘threads’.
Complification is a forthcoming exhibition at GAGA Arts Center in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley to be held in April 2010. The three person programme will look at the work of painter daniel Baltzer, multi-media artist Christopher Baker and sculptor R.Justin Stewart . The common thread; all three artists draw on the influence of the information age within their work.
Also forthcoming, Blatzer’s work is planned to be part of a group show at the IAC building [designed by Frank Gehry] in New York for the launch of worldarts.me in October.
