Sonia Delauney : Armory Show 2009

I went to the Armory and Volta this year to see contemporary art. The new ‘Modern’ section that was included in Pier 92 seems to give emphasis to artists works that really don’t feel the difference to their exposure – for several reasons. Two come predominantly to mind – 1; they are no longer with us [r.i.p] and 2; their work already sells in the millions.
In any case, Pulse and other areas of the fair reportedly provided more opportunity for living artists to receive much needed exposure. And more power to them!

I was glad to see Sonia Delauney’s work on Pier 92. As a textile designer I am always drawn to her works, and they are very little shown in the southern hemisphere, so it was a treat to find this large tapestry hanging in a thoroughfare of the show. I was in a hurry so apologies for the blurred shot, but you see her signature in the lower right corner.
